Pontin’s Blackpool to close

Ocean Parcs, owner of Pontin’s, has unveiled a multi-million pound investment for five of its six holiday parks, far more than originally announced in February – Southport Holiday Park alone has a planned investment of more than £100 million.

Subject to planning permission, Prestatyn Sands, Brean Sands, Southport, Lowestoft (Pakefield) and Camber Sands will all see major development work, however, its Blackpool holiday park has not been included in the plans and will close when its current lease ends.

Chief Executive of Ocean Parcs, Ian Smith said: “In commencing our strategic long term development plans, it is with regret and sadness that we will not be extending the development plans to our Blackpool Holiday Park. It was not an easy decision for the Board to make but the level of investment required for a short period of time and a reduction in holiday bookings at the Park, which is the reverse of the trends at our other Parks, means that it is not commercially viable to continue beyond the end of the current lease.
