Southampton flyby to mark 75th anniversary of first Spitfire flight

Visitors to and residents of Southampton will be able to witness a spectacular Spitfire fly past tomorrow, Saturday 5 March 2011, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the first ever Spitfire flight.

Exactly 75 years to the date of the first flight, the famous ‘Grace Spitfire’ will take to the air, flying over Southampton water.

The fly past will take place around 11:30am, subject to weather conditions.

The best vantage points will be along the River Itchen, Mayflower Park, Weston Shore, and Victoria Country Park – do not go to Southampton Airport as viewing areas will not be available.
