IOM 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games get underway

The 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) get underway in the Isle of Man today, Friday, 9 September, following yesterday’s spectacular opening ceremony which saw His Royal Highness the Earl of Wessex – the vice patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation – officially opening the Games.
This is the first time the Isle of Man has hosted the CYG, which run until 13 September, and sees athletes from 63 nations compete in seven sporting events:
- Athletics
- Badminton
- Boxing
- Cycling
- Gymnastics
- Rugby 7’s
- Swimming
